History

The idea for a queer (LGBTQ) specific housing co-operative has been circulating within the community over the past decade. In 2015, a group formed to refine the idea and it was decided to focus on an intergenerational queer housing co-operative in Dublin city. This group eventually held a public meeting in January 2020 to hear views from the community and a working group was established. When the global pandemic hit the working group continued to meet online and Aisteach Co-Operative Housing Society Limited was registered as an Industrial and Provident Society in November 2021.
